Visitor Policy
Biomedical research involves many types of research involving the
use of laboratory animals. It is the responsibility of the University
to assure that:
a) The integrity of research projects, utilizing laboratory animals,
will not be disrupted;
b) The health of University employees will be protected from potential
hazards associated with research projects, such as radiation and
biohazards.
c) The health of visitors will be protected from potential hazards
associated with research projects, such as radiation and biohazards.
d) The health and well-being of research animals will be fully protected.
To meet this goal, individuals not directly associated with the
University's biomedical research effort may not enter DLAR facilities
unless they have received permission from the DLAR Director, the
Director of Veterinary Services or the Assistant Director. Individual
associated with the University's biomedical research effort would
include individuals identified as participants on an approved IACUC
protocol, tradesmen providing facility maintenance, vendors delivering
animals, accrediting/licensing agencies such as AAALAC, International,
USDA or NYSDH.
The DLAR Director will use his/her professional judgement regarding
requests for facility tours. The Director, and/or his/her designee,
will be present on all tours given for non-University personnel.
